UN&UP Announces Support for the Fall 2025 Engineers in the Community Program
UN&UP is pleased to announce its support for the 2025-26 Engineers in the Community program with the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. (https://sites.wustl.edu/engineersinthecommunity/)
The Engineers in the Community program was founded in 2016 through a gracious grant provided by The Gephardt Institute at Washington University in St. Louis. Since then, dozens of student teams have worked with community partners and undertaken projects to help bridge equity gaps in St. Louis.
This fall, we are honored to be the client for a student team working in this intense one-semester program which will focus on applying their engineering skills to address an unmet need in our community-identifying problems impeding timely treatment for ischemic stroke victims.
Our team comprising Lani Espinel, Doug Wagner, Fiona Sun, and Sydnee Head will collaborate with regional EMS providers, air and ground transport, and stroke coordinators serving the St. Louis, Missouri and surrounding areas to gain insights into the challenges that ischemic stroke patients encounter once diagnosed and the EMS system has been activated.
The team will be supported in this effort with UNandUP experts and guided by their academic mentor, Professor Allison Creighton.

We’re excited to see the impact this collaboration will bring to our community!
