Welcoming Our Summer 2026 Interns
UNandUP is excited to welcome a talented group of student innovators joining our team this summer. We are also pleased to welcome back Tarini Karnati and MaryAnn Romagna, who are returning after successful Spring 2026 internships to continue contributing to our mission of advancing healthcare innovation.

Emily Lopez is a rising third-year Biomedical Engineering student at Washington University in St. Louis. She was introduced to UNandUP through WashU’s Biomedical Engineering Internship Program and was drawn to the company's commitment to serving underserved populations. Emily is passionate about developing innovative medical technologies that improve lives and contribute to meaningful healthcare advancements. Outside of engineering, she enjoys hiking, backpacking, weightlifting, and exploring the performing arts.
Shalini Vlcan is a senior at Washington University in St. Louis pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Physics. She is passionate about improving healthcare and patient outcomes through innovation, design, and problem-solving. This summer, she joins the ThromBot™ team, where she will support the development and prototyping of novel medical devices aimed at addressing critical unmet clinical needs.
Emily Seligson is a rising senior at Washington University in St. Louis studying Computer Engineering and is originally from Connecticut. Emily is passionate about using technology to help others. With particular interest in medical devices and neurotechnology, she aspires to build a career at the intersection of engineering and healthcare. Beyond academics, Emily enjoys ice skating, playing ultimate frisbee, and attending performances at The Muny.
Our returning interns,Tarini Karnati and MaryAnn Romagna, two talented students who continue to bring enthusiasm, leadership, and a passion for medical innovation continue on our TheraLode™ team.
Tarini is a rising junior at Saint Louis University majoring in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Robotics and Business Technology Management. She is actively involved in drug delivery research, SLULaunch, and several campus leadership organizations. With interests spanning drug delivery systems, medical devices, and entrepreneurship.
MaryAnn a senior Chemistry major at McKendree University with interests in biomedical engineering and medicine brings valuable research experience in immune cell differentiation from Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to her academic and research accomplishments, MaryAnn is the founder and president of McKendree MEDLIFE, a pre-medical service organization that partners with mobile medical clinics in Latin America. Through her continued internship at UNandUP, she hopes to expand her experience in medical technology innovation and contribute to the advancement of transformative healthcare solutions.
